Dove Damage Therapy Colour Radiance Shampoo & Conditioner Review

For the majority of my life, I have been a massive fan of the skincare products from Dove.  My Mum absolutely raves about Dove and she swears by Dove soap for everything beauty related.  So since growing up, it’s always been in my life one way or another.

Dove expended their range years ago to hair care products and it’s only in the past two years that I’ve slowly worked my way though. I’ve tried almost every single shampoo and conditioner but never really blogged about them until now or one in particular.

So, on my weekly food shop, I ended up browsing down the toiletry ails and I bought the Dove Damage Therapy Colour Radiance Shampoo & Conditioner.  They just happened to fall into my trolley – honest! ASDA had a good 2 for £3 deal (for 2x350ml) and I needed to try them out.

Now, given the success of the other ranges I’d used (intensive repair was the best), I am bitterly disappointed to report that this did not meet my expectations. If fact, I am close to binning the rest of the bottles. I hate wasting products, but this has not worked for me at all.

You don’t need much of the shampoo – I’d say no more than 2p sized as it lathers up nicely. However, when I rinsed this out of my hair, it left is extremely knotty and oily feeling. At first, I’d convinced myself that I hadn’t washed it all out so I spent a good 5 minutes under the showerhead.  It felt like a greasy film all over my hair.

I continued on to use the conditioner, applying it to the ends of my hair and left for a good 5 minutes. As my hair is frequently coloured I like to leave the product on longer. Then rinsed, and rinsed and rinsed, and rinsed…

After drying my hair it felt awful. It looked greasy, flat at my roots and frizzy on the ends. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t get any volume going and it would become greasy the next day.

I’ve repeated this process for about two weeks and ended up with the same results. I’ve tried using less conditioner, more conditioner, more shampoo and so on but it just didn’t get on with my hair.

I am very disappointed. In future, I will stick to using the Intensive Repair from the Dove Shampoo and Conditioner. It wont put me off trying other Dove products but I don’t think I will  be recommending this.

Nivea Daily Essential Double Effect Eye Make Up Remover

I’ve been looking around for a good eye maker removed with a cheap price tag but had industrial strength. Well, maybe that is a slight over exaggeration but you get the point.

This product delivered just what I wanted.  For me, it’s shifts waterproof mascara, eye shadows and stubborn eyeliner that facial cleaners and water don’t remover on their own.  In the past, eyeliners were difficult to remove until I found this bad boy!

It claims that the product is gentle enough for contact lens wearers. I cannot really comment as I don’t wear them but I found that my eyes are not irritated nor sting after using this. This is a great bonus when my eyes are tired after a long day.

The only downfall is that it’s really oily, which is a given, considering it’s consistency. With that in mind it’s moisturizing and calming. I used a dry cotton pad to remove the excess oil off.

For £3.49, (125ml: standard size) it is a fantastic drugstore product that does the job effectively. Would recommend to all.

Maybelline Rocket Volum' Express Mascara

This product has been out on the market for sometime now but I was late on the bandwagon with purchasing this. Partly because I already own many mascaras and I wanted to wait and see what the reviews were like before trying it out myself.

Maybelline claims that this mascara will make your lashes look 6X bigger with it’s “supersonic Brush with microbristles” for a sleek and volumised effect.  I am happy to note that my lashes did look more defined and lengthened but not much volumising happened. I really disliked the way they have advertised it as a “supersonic brush” – what does that even mean??

In terms of the application, the bristles on the brush helps to reach every part of the eyelash but you do need to be little patience to use it properly (nothing “express” about it).  Just remember to get them a good wiggle with the wand and you’ll coat the lashes nicely.

Compared to my eyelashes without mascara, its safe to say that I am impressed with how long they did look. The formula can only be described as ‘wet’ at first but them dries very quickly. For me, its staying power last about 4-5 hours and leaves clumps of mascara sitting under the eyes.

Panda eyes alert!

Nivea Pure & Natural Soothing Day Cream and Anti Wrinkle Night Cream 50ml

Over the years, I have really enjoyed using different products from the Nivea Visage ranges. Their products have always worked well with my skin and very rarely have I been disappointed with their selection.

As I am on a budget for the next few months (and I have partially enforced a spending band), I know there are skin care products on the market that I haven’t tried yet. And, with a much cheaper price tag so for the next couple of months I will focus my blog on affordable and trustworthy products that do the job.

In this line of products there are 3 different moisturisers to choose from: a day cream for dry/ sensitive skin, a day cream for normal/ combination skin and an anti - wrinkle night cream. All products come in a glass pot container where you can get every last bit of cream so there’s no wastage!

Thumbs up!

Generally speaking, I had difficultly deciding which ones to buy. I’ve been so nervous to try anything on my skin since my acne decided to flare up. However, I put trust my gut instinct and went for the day cream for dry sensitive skin and the night cream too.

Purchased from Boots Stores. RRP: £3.57

Purchased from Boots Stores. RRP: £5.93

I had nothing to fear. I was really impressed with the day cream. Initially, I was perturbed by the slowness of absorption that put me off wanting to continue. Though, with a little patience I realised that this product didn’t cause any breakouts and very moisturising.

Two thumbs up!

The night cream is my favourite! And I really wish I had this during winter (note to self) as the formula is rich and soothing. Although I do not use the facial cleansers from this range it does work well with my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and Liz Earle Toner.

Three thumps up!

Both products smell lovely. Other people who have reviewed these products tend to disagree. The fragrance is light and not overbearing. They are great as a based for make. My foundation seems to sit better and last longer. In fact, I would even go as fair as to say it’s better then a primer.  Both products are very rich and creamy in texture, especially the night cream, and do take at least 10 minutes to settle.

However, it’s all worth it, I have noticed a different in the appearance of my skin. I am keen to note that some of the ingredients have been produced “organically” which have been kinder to my skins needs. My only real negative is the lack of SPF in the day cream.  I strongly believe in protecting skin from all UV light so I rather not clog my face with more products.

I would recommend anyone to give this range a try. Other products in the Pure & Natural range also work together for the best results.  These two products will be on my repurchase list!

Elegant Touch French Manicure

Just a quick review:

Tap tap tap! I love that noise. You either love or get annoyed that it. That's right. That sound of long finger nails tapping away on a keyboard or table. False nails are a beauty accessory that are always handy to have around.

My nails never look nice. I have resigned to the fact that they will never grow how I want them to. So, I am after a quick fix. And, with a Hen Party coming up next weekend these are just what I need.  In the past, I have used drug store false nails before and I like using them. For years, I have always relied on Elegant Touch to do the job.

Elegant Touch have recently updated their branding. Must say, it looks better in my opinion!
I picked up his set of false nails from Super Drug for about £6. These one's have a french manicure, white tip finish that have a pink tint for a natural look.

These nails have been treated with 'UV Gel Technology' to ensure that they are chip resistant. Hmmmm, we will see. I will post a photo updated later on this week.

What's inside the pack?
24 nails in 10 different sizes, nail glue, a buffer and an instruction booklet.

The range of nail lengths vary from long to extra short. For practically, I always pick short. The sizes available are versatile. I would imagine that they would fit most people. My advise would be to pick out of 'try on' each nail and put aside the nails that  much your size. Make a left and right hand side so you know which nail fits which finger. Sounds simple, but you will be amazed at how many people I see to start sticking them on and realizing they've picked the wrong one.

The glue comes in a pen like applicator that you use to apply a thin layer. Then you simply out the nail on and press down for around 3-5 seconds. Hey presto!

It's amazing how nice looking nails give you confidence. The quality of the nails are brilliant and give a clean, professional finish.

Now, these are supposed to last for up to 10 days. Previously, when I have used these they don't and I find them at the plug hole of my shower. So, the one criticism I would give is must have stronger, water resistant glue!!!

If you're sticking something onto your nails with glue - you have to accept that it's going to cause some damage. After you take these off with an acetone based remover, use a nail buffing block to buff away tried on glue and use a good cuticle oil and hand cream for dry hands to help your nails replenish last oils.

The worst thing you can doit bite and pulled them off. Urgh, it makes me cringe to think/write about it. Yuk!  Just don't do it! The amount of damage you cause to your nail is bad!!

As you can probably guess, I will carry on re-purchasing these in the future. They are my quick fix to shabby looking nails.
