Just got back from Paris. Loved it!

Avon Purge

Hello,
I’m back after taking a break for a while to decide where I am going with this blog. Also, I’ve had lots going on last month so I knew that beauty blogging would not fit into my list of priorities. However, at the beginning on October I ordered some Avon products to try (…so I did have this blog in the back of my mind) and try, wear and review

It’s been a long, long time since I ordered from Avon. Its a dangerous game when you’re supposed to be on a spending ban yet I couldn’t help but look through the Avon book at work. Although I didn’t break the bank buying these products, I was supposed to be saving for my trip away this week. But I really did need all these new shiny things….honestly

AVON NAILWEAR PRO+

For the past 6 months I have been saying to myself: must invest in more nail polishes. With my recent membership to Pinterest I’ve been loving and re-pinning loads of pictures of fabulous nails, colour, ombre, nail art and discovering that actually I lack nail colour or any nail polishes. So, with this in mind, I browsed through Avon to see what I could find.

I picked 4 colours that I could mix and match - yes, the ombre effect had also inspired me to invest! I wanted something that would last me from Autumn and throughout Winter to Spring. As you can see, I’ve labelled them in the photo already. So far, I have only tried ‘Star’ and it applies to the nail beautifully. Be aware though - they are rather runny and one coat is not enough to feel the full effect. They are very wearable and my first application has lasted me almost a full week without chipping. Very impressed! These retail at about £4/6 each. I got these ones in an offer: 4 for £10

AVON TRUE COLOUR 6 IN 1 EYE PALETTE (IN CHIC GLAMOUR)

Keeping with the Autumn/ Winter theme, I decided to purchase this eye palette for 2 reasons.

  • Love the warm colours - will suit my skin tone and introduce new colours into my collection.
  • Because it was on offer - £7 reduced from £11. I’m a Saver so this applied to me. Gives me £4 extra to spend on something from Avon.
So, a well justified reason as to why I NEEDED this - NOT!

The packaging for this little box of magic is very sleek and professional looking. One of the little things I didn’t like about Avon was not being able to judge the quality of some until weeks later so thing definitely  ticked my boxes. The colour are beautiful and very pigmented so alittle goes along way.

There’s a mixture of matt and shimmer in this palette. They are easy to use and blend into each other evenly. My only concern is that one of the darker shades isn’t very pigmented at all. In fact, if you take a look at this swatch the bottom colour is look dirty and dull. But I suppose it depends if you want your colour to be light and more intense. Personally, I would prefer mine to be deep (that’s what she said..hehe). It’s compact enough to travel with and comes with a handy mirror too.

AVON 24K SCULPT AND SHIMMER GOLD BLUSH DUO

Again, the packaging really did it for me. This product is great for contouring for face and giving you a healthy, natural looking glow. My skin is going through a period where it’s looking dull and pale. Perhaps it’s the change in seasons. So, I wanted something that would brighten up my face.

This product ‘does what it’s says in the tin’. You have to be careful about the amount of product you use.  It’s shimmery and high in pigments so my recommendation is to first with a small amounts and build up. Apply to you cheeks bones, forehead and jaw line to create a fresh dewy look. As I mentioned before, great for a dull complexion and is now part of my everyday kit. Again, this was on offer. I purchased for £6.50 instead of £9.

AVON SMOOTH MINERALS POWDER FOUNDATION

Anybody that has not tried a mineral foundation before, make sure you give this one a try first. I’ve seen and heard many positive reviews about this . And I must agree, with all the other mineral products I’ve tried - this has to be near the top. It’s a lightweight products that’s easy on the skin and adopts a no mess no fuss mantra.

purchased the shade Ivory though it is slightly dark for my skin. Either my skin too pale or this is generous on the colour.  Using a powder brush, it’s blends and builds onto skin without giving you that ‘cake’ effect. I recommend that you use light circular motions to ensure that it’s spreads evenly across you face. Start at your nose and work your way out. It’s suitable for most skins types and is great for popping into your handbag during the day to top up if necessary. Also with a SPF 15 so it gives you some sun protection.

September Glossybox

After 3 months of unsubscribing from Glossybox I’ve decided to rejoined the beauty craze. This time I subscribed to the September box after reading so many great reviews about the quality of products in this months box. Sold! Since my last visit, I was pleased to see that Glossybox have updated the website with new style and format to their site. Love it! It’s cleaner and easier to navigate with quick links to stuff you really need to know. Thumbs up so far.
This post won’t be about reviewing the box or products themselves but just to show a glimpse what items I received in this months box.

The box is focused around ‘rising stars’ in beauty right now. Geared up towards London Fashion Week, Glossybox has asked an ‘up and coming’ illustrator Maggi Li to create a theme around fashion and beauty. I really like the simpleness to the designs. When I opened package I was happy to see an exclusive designed box that’s different from previous ‘exclusive’ box.

The Products
  • balanceMe Wonder Eye Cream
  • Maghrabian Hair Oil Treatment
  • Vichy Idealia Day Care Cream
  • Rodial Glamoxy Snake Serum x2 1ml and 5 minute facial x2 1ml
  • Lady Gaga Fame Perfume 2ml
One of the reasons why I unsubscribed from Glossybox wasn’t due to the standard of products, but the lack of consideration for the suitability of products for me. Although I am pleased with the quality of products, I’m still slightly annoyed. Why? Because why would I want to use ‘snake serum’ at 23 years of age? Why send me a moisturiser for normal/ combination skin when I told them I had dry/ sensitive skin?? Grrrr! Still not getting somethings right.
However, I am excited to try the Maghrabian hair oil and the Rodial 5 minute facial. Both  brands I have never come across before. With the central heating being cranked up and cold weather setting in my hair could do with a treatment right now so this has been timed nicely. In addition, I’ve just had a quick sniff of the Lady Gaga perfume which is growing on me. It’s a sweet, floral fragrance that’s heavy. Definitely a going out perfume. All products will be reviewed at a later date.
I’m always open to try new products. That’s the whole point of subscribing to beauty boxes. I like the concept and it’s encouraging for the beauty market. So, I will keep going and hopefully they will, as promised, try harder to tailer boxes. I’m not naive to think that every product in the box would be right first time but I would of preferred the hair care products that were also on offer. Again, I know it’s also down to the availability of each product but if I’m going to spend £12.95 per month on this subscription, I’d like to at be able to try the product rather then passing it onto someone else. Hmmmm, food for thought.
