Career Talk | Emirates: Application Under Review
Today is Monday 4th Aug 2014 and I just wanted to update everyone on the process so far. It is more than likely that this blog post will be published after the interview stages (if I get that far). I want to be sure that I actually make it at the Selection Day
Since submitting my application on the 29th July, I have religiously been checking the status of my application several times a day. Obsessive much? Yes, even on the weekend I checked in the hope that the Personnel department and recruiters have nothing better to do with their time and check through the thousands of applications. I read online somewhere that Sunday is a working day in the UAE, so not giving up hope there! This afternoon I went about this new ritual and noticed that my application status changed to 'application under review'. My heart started pounding. In less than a week, my application was being reviewed. That's 6 days after submitting the final draft. From the forums that I read online, the majority of applicants had been waiting weeks before their status changed. It could be another 1-12 weeks before I hear from Emirates with an invitation or rejection letter. Either way, I am nervously anticipating their response. I have thought about this role quite a lot since submitting the application. There are a 100 questions I want to know before I embark on this journey. I suppose only time will tell. Here I am confidently typing away at this post and realised that I may sound like I have the job already. The fact is, I do not know what the outcome is yet, but I cannot help but be excited about this opportunity. In retrospect, I am taking on a huge gamble with this job. Not only would I be changing my career, but also leaving behind I life that I have built for myself since the age of 17 years. My family will also support whatever decision I make, but I will also be upsetting some of my friends. This year has taught me to take risks; to look at life differently and to stop saying 'what if'. Those are the kind of regrets I would hate to have. I have to make selfish decisions based on number 1 - ME! So good luck to anyone in that wide world who has applied or is looking to apply for Cabin Crew opportunities. This could be the best and most important decision of your life. I hope you can share your experiences with me. There are loads of blogs out there that focus on applying for jobs like this. |
Career Talk | Emirates: The Application
There is something about working and travelling around the world that would satisfy a strong needy urge deep down at the bottom of my heart. So this is my chance to stretch that 'dream' into a possible reality. That want to travel came from my teenage days of being a young, free spirit. Before I started University, I had the dream of graduating then travelling around the world, meeting new people and exploring myself. Truth is, reality hit hard! I didn't get the opportunity to do that and ended up needing to find a full time job, and quickly.
So I did. I was very lucky. There were only a hand full of people I knew who got a job within the first couple of weeks from graduating. Then even, it wasn't exactly a graduate job, and nothing to do with my degree, but professional enough to get that first step ladder on the career ladder. Since 2010, I have been employed within the Education sector and thoroughly enjoyed my success. I am and have worked in some excellent, outstanding organisations.
But...it's just not enough!
On a personal level, this has been a very challenging and difficult year. With all that overcome, I am craving change, again. Something that will positively impact on me for once. I am good at adapting to change and
It all started by searching for holiday with one of my closest Besties. The idea of getting away for a week appealed to me after the the previous months that had gone by. As I searched for destinations, I also browsed through which airports would offer decent flight prices. So at this point, I am navigating the Manchester Airport website looking for what airlines flew from there. That strong urge came back to me so I begun looking into the career opportunities with the airline companies that were listed.
Within an hour, I had literally done the application form for Emirates. I felt a high level of dedication getting the form completed. To make the online application process easier, I even joined LinkedIn, as I didn't have a premade CV to hand. All I need to do was link my LinkedIn account with the application form and simples! It was all done.
For the record, this is just my experience. Everything that I discuss is only to use as guide if you are thinking of applying to join Emirates. Otherwise, I am just sharing my experiences of applying. It might not necessary mine that you get the job! I found this helpful clip on YouTube on becoming a Cabin Crew member with Emirates here.
The online application form is standard. It's all electronic which makes inputting your information is easy. There is 8 sections, Personal Information, Work Experience, Education, Certifications, Photos, Job Specific Questions, Declaration and Summary. All the sections are very straight forward. In the work experience section, that's where I connected my LinkedIn account. So much quicker than filling in the sections one line at a time.
Yes - you do need to upload photos of yourself. One full length photo in formal attire: black jacket, white blouse/ shirt, knee length skirt, natural tights and smart (clean) black mid heels. I put my hair up in my bun and kept my makeup simple. I YouTubed how the Emirates girls do there makeup and found some pretty good tutorials . The Job Specific Question's section is nothing to worry about. The section asks you to confirm that you have attached your photo's as advised, that you're willing to wear the company uniform, and that you can work shifts. Yes to all!
Before you send off your application, make sure you are happy with it. Spell check, and if you can, let someone else read over it. I have dyslexia and struggle to proof read my own grammar and spelling so I like to leave it a day or two before submitting any application form. I left it quite sometime. Although I started the application just after booking my holiday, I did not send it off until after I had come back, just so I could be positive that this is what I wanted.
There you go. So, at this point, I am just waiting to find out if I have been invited to the Assessment Day. If successful, I will be going to the one in Edinborough in September! Eeeeeeek! By the time I post this, I will know if I have the job or not.
Good luck to anyone who is/ has applied. Let me know how you get on. I would love to hear you experiences!!!!!
Beauty | My Duty Free Purchase | Clarins Travel Exclusive Pack
Looking around, I had to hold restraint when I came across the Clarins products. I've had samples of their products in the past and loved them, but I was always put off by the price tag. I ended up walking away with technically once purchase, but 5 miniature items. This is the Clarins Travel Exclusive Pack purchased for £32 at the Duty Free Shop.
A quick look at what's inside:
- One Step Facial Cleaner with Orange Extract 100ml
- HydraQuench Cream for Normal to Dry Skin 50ml
- Beauty Flash Balm 50ml
- Moisture - Rich Body Lotion with Shea Butter for Dry Skin
- Eye Contour Gel
One Step Facial Cleaner with Orange Extract
Firstly, it smells beautiful. This product is a great cleaner for taking off your make up. I use it more for pre-cleaning eye make up off my face mainly. It's a 'doublephased' cleaner (oil and water solutions to mixed together) that is kind to the skin removing light make up, general everyday dirt. Shake the bottle well before use. Then soak a cotton pad and dab all over your face to break down all dirt and make up. Use the other side of the pad smooth over face. There is no need to rinse, though I like to give my face a quick splash to remove residue. Great for dry skin types like me!
HydraQuench Cream for Normal to Dry Skin
After using the cleaner, I follow up with this lovely moisturising cream. It is light and silky that's smooth to apply leaving a light feel on the skin. I suffer from dry - to extreme dry skin. This is perfect for me to use during the summer months. However, I don't think it's as enriching as more other dry moisturisers I've used. It does absorb into skin very quickly. I did not need to wait for it to 'sink in' before applying my make up. I would recommended for people with dry skin!
Beauty Flash Balm 50ml
One of Carins best sellers! Prior to purchasing, I had seen and read so many reviews on this little beaut. Most reviews I've found online are mainly 5/5 stars. It's received aloads of rewards and accolades for being the Best Beauty Buy of 2013 for several companies. This is been branded as the "ultimate pick-me-up for tired, stressed skin". This product is targeted at reducing the look of fatigue. I do agree with the claims; it brightens the appearance of dull looking skin. It also had extracts of Olive and Witch Hazel that aims to improves the skins surface. I apply this before make up as a primer.
Moisture - Rich Body Lotion with Shea Butter for Dry Skin
Out of the whole batch, this is my favourite product so far. I am even tempted to purchase the full sized version for £30!!!! For a bloody body cream! What?! It smells DEVINE!!!! Both my Bestie and I loved the scent and feel of this on our skin. It has peach, shea butter, candlenut oil and orange. It sooths dry patches and improves overall skin tone. Check! I loved using this and I'm sad the 30ml size didn't last me that long. It absorbs fairly quickly so there was no waiting around for it to dry before getting dressed.
Eye Contour Gel
This is my least favourite product of the pack. It claims to minimise the look of puffiness and dark circles—refreshing, hydrating and resting the delicate skin around eyes". To be honest, I didn't feel a difference in using this product. Maybe it just wasn't for me. It was good for preparation and great for applying before using eye makeup. But I don't think it helped to make me look less tired.
Do you enjoy using Clarins products? What would you recommend I try next?

Beauty | Shopping with Offers and Discounts!
My guilty conscientious has a part to play for the inspiration behind writing this post. At some point, most of us have been impulsive and splurged when we should not, bought the same shade nail polish in 3 different bands, or broke out the credit card because I WANT it. Damn that inner voice! Blogging does have some impact on my beauty expenditure because (and my justification is) I'd like to review it for my website. To do that, I need to be savvy in the way I shop.
Online Vouchers & Discounts
Researching online also has its benefits to finding the best beauty deals. VoucherCloud and Voucher Codes are great if you're looking for money off and free delivery codes. Not only do they cover beauty and beauty, but they also cover restaurants and electronics. So if you've shopped until you've dropped in need a pit stop lunch, use their apps for deals. These can help you stay on budget.
Loyalty Cards & Coupons
My purse is full of loyalty cards from various beauty companies such as Boots, Super Drug and The Body Shop. The 'Advanage Card' from Boots is probably my most used and abused loyalty card. You earn points from spending, then you can spend the point on products marked with an asterisk *. In addition, they post out coupons to utilise the amount of points in each transaction instore or online.
Super Drug also have a fantastic points reward system with their 'Beauty Card'. The point system works similarly to the Advantage Card. If you are a student then you should take note of the extra 10% off with a NUS card!
The Body Shop also have a rewards card called 'Love Your Body' Card where you receive 10% off all purchases for a year. You have to pay £5 for the card. You also receive free gifts, a special birthday present, invites to even offers and discounts, and previews of new products. It's worth it if you regularly shop there.
Again, The 'Debenhams Beauty Club' Card allows you to collect points and exchange them for rewards on Beauty, Fragrance and Beauty Electricals either instore or online. Other benefits include free makeovers and skin consultations, free delivery online, free gifts, and exclusive special offers.
The N.Dulge card from Space NK in also worth having if you enjoy your higher end brands. You get £5 off for every 100 points earned. You earn 1 point for every £1 spent in store. There are also get exclusive invitations, product previews and "birthday treats".
There are many, many more available. I even have one for Toni&Guy, Costa Coffee and Starbuckes!
Shopping Around
Martin Lewis's Money Saving Expert is a fantastic place to keep up to date with the latest deals. The information and advice available on this website is great. I have recently found some steals on there thanks for a colleague at work. You can also sign up to a regular newsletter that I would recommend putting your details down for.
Local grocery stores such Asda and Tescos (in the UK) are also hidden treasures for having deals on high street brands such as Rimmel and Maybelline. So if you're out doing the food shop and need some new makeup - why wait until you're going into town when I can pop into your local store (which is probably closer) and pick up your favourite brands.
Sign up to newsletters online and take advantage of the special offers they send you. Most companies will send you exclusive deals like an extra 10- 20% off selective items or even sale items that have already been heavily reduced. If you dislike Spam, make a separate email account that's just for this purpose - one for business - one for personal. Makes sense!
Cash Back Websites
This is the most recent discovery of mine. Cashback websites are great for earning money back on purchases. You have to shop online to get these cash backs but they all add up in the end.Top Cashback and Quido are two of the most popular sites which I use. It works by receiving a fixed percentage back on purchases. For example, if you spent £50 at Tesco who offered 5% cash back, you would earn £2.50. Now that's not exactly ground breaking but it would all add up and some extra savings for that expensive makeup palette. There are also certain banks with current accounts that are offering cash back on spending too! The savings can be deposited straight into your bank account or exchanged for vouchers.
Disclaimer: I have not been sponsored to feature the above companies in this post. All who are mentioned are the ones I enjoy using.

Beauty | Confessions of a Blogger TAG
Today, I have really enjoyed reading up on the ‘Confessions of a Blogger’ TAG. Although I have not been tagged personally, I think it’s a good TAG for followers/readers to get to know you more, and gain insight into you as a blogger.
10 Questions…
Starting the blog was something that I had debated to myself for a long time (not many people know this). I built up the confidence to start on Tumblr after watching so many of my favourite Youtuber’s online develop their knowledge and network of friends. I’ve always been interested in beauty products and the industry. As a teenager, I was told that it wouldn’t pay as a future career and my ‘talents’ would be better spent in supporting people. Nonetheless, it’s better late than never!
On Blogger, my first blog was on the September 2012 Glossy Box. In fact, watching videos on YouTube about beauty reviews is what first introduced me to the concept on Beauty Boxes. Then I watched reviews on them, and wanted to review them myself online.
Blogging is not just about writing posts, reviewing products, fitting it around your day; it’s also about networking with others. Therefore, I use my diary to schedule in online chats and opportunities for networking. For example, on Twitter, there are #bbloggerchats that go live on Wednesdays and Sunday evenings. Mainly on a Sunday, I try to take part in these so I arrange my Sunday evenings around this.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this post, and getting to know more about me. I will continue to read these tags as they’re interesting! If you decided to do this post, please let me know in the comments below! I’d love to read them!

Weekly Beauty Favourites #3
Hello!
Sunday is here again! That means its the end of another week and I am here with my weekly favourites.
As featured in my previous Weekly Favourites post I am still using the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. It's been great from protecting my nose and lips from drying up with all this nasty hay fever. Click on the link for further comments :)
Shower time is happy time this week. And, I do love a good scrub! I have been using the Soap & Glory 'The Scrub Of Your Life' body scrub. It's a gel like formula with pink, small exfoliating beads to 'scrub' away dead skin. The smell is beautiful; with a combination of bergamot, mandarin, rose, jasmine, peach, strawberry, warm vanilla and woody notes. I would say that its a gentler body scrub that some of the others I have tried in the Soap and Glory range. Perfect to use on a daily basis particularly if you're sensitive to grainy exfoliators like me. If you are wanting something with more oomph then I'd recommend the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub.
Last month I was on the hunt from a summery fragrance. Seriously, like I'd used up all perfume, including the emergency stash and samples. Emergency situation. I a picked up this little bargain from the Perfume Shop. The DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Bloosom is amazing to me. It's a very light, clean and more girly compared to the original Be Delicious. There are delicate hints of apple there with dominantly floral tones.
That's what I've been loving this week. Next week, I will post my top 5 beauty favourites that have been featured in my weekly posts throughout June. If you want to see more weekly favourites in July - please leave a comment below :)
Life Update: April 2014
Hello
So I've been absent from writing blog posts throughout the majority of March. Why? Well, it's kind of personal really. But let's just say I'm a single lady nowadays!
Unfortunately, it's been a difficult period of time. However, safe to say I am getting ready to 'get back on the horse' so to speak and continue from when I left off. I'm ready to concentrate on things that are important to me, blogging being one of them.
I'm making a bucket list of things I'd like to do, especially this year. No matter how big or small, these will be my goals for me to focus on. Perhaps I'll share this soon when I've got my editing together.
In the next couple of weeks, I'll be house hunting :) I'm quite excited to get this process going. I've seen some potential places already, and then theres some right scruffy dives! I will try to blog as much as possible - share the experiences and all that! It'll inspire me to write some home related blogs. I've already starting the packing! What a nightmare?! That said, the clearing out process has been quite therapeutic to a certain extent. Spring cleaning all the clutter has helped me to come to terms with my new set of circumstances.
In also planning on a trip with my home girl Bestie. We've not decided where yet but we cannot wait. I'm craving time away from all negative things in my life. A re-charge of my batteries in needed. Saying that, working in education has its perks, I now have two weeks off for easter, and two bank holidays to enjoy. I'll be spending most of this time with friends and family. I'm also looking forward to a planned trip with my work buddies. We're off to Edinburgh for a weekend of fun fun and laughter!
For the few followers I have, thank you for sticking with me through the quieter times. I will be back in full swing very shortly :)
... I'm even strongly considering YouTube.
Thanks
Rachel xxx
